"Hands Across the Sand" Public Alert

Hi Ron,
Over the past several weeks I have heard the frustration from many of you over the oil that continues to gush into the Gulf of Mexico, kill wildlife, and wash up on gulf beaches. Many of you have asked what you can do and I wanted to let you know about a couple of important actions next week in NC:

1)  On June 26th people from all around the world will gather in their communities to draw a physical line in the sand against offshore drilling. These "Hands Across the Sand" gatherings will take place on lakes, rivers, and beaches to raise awareness about the dangers of offshore drilling. To find an event near you or to plan one in your community go to: http://www.1sky.org/joinhands

2)  Come to Raleigh next Wednesday, June 23rd, for Clean Water Lobby Day and tell your legislators in person to oppose offshore drilling and support legislation to make sure BP pays for damages in North Carolina.

3) Finally, next week we expect our North Carolina legislators to vote on legislation to make offshore drilling more difficult off our coast. The legislation would also make sure BP pays for damages if the gulf oil reaches our beaches. As soon as we know that the bill will go to a vote we’ll send an email alert so you can contact your legislator.

We are all growing frustrated with the images out of the gulf and the potential for it to make its way to North Carolina beaches.

Please join us next week as we send a powerful message to our decision makers that North Carolinians stand with others across the country calling on leaders to end our oil dependence and move America into a clean energy future.

Thanks for anything you can do!
